Microsoft planea sacar 8 versiones de Windows Server 2008, su lanzamiento se estima para Febrero del 2008, 3 de estos incluiran hypervisor technology, Hyper-V.
Las versiones son las siguientes:

- Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition (x86 y x86-64)
- Windows Server 2008 Datacenter Edition (x86 y x86-64)
- Windows Web Server 2008 (x86 y x86-64)
- Windows Storage Server 2008 (x86 y x86-64)
- Windows Small Business Server 2008 (Codenamed “Cougar”) (x86-64) for small businesses
- Windows Essential Business Server 2008 (Codenamed “Centro”) (x86-64) for medium-sized businesses
- Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-based Systems
La edicion Standard de Windows Server 2008 con Hyper-V costara $999 dlls e incluye 5 licencias, y $971 sin Hyper-V. La version Enterprise con Hyper-V costara $3,999 dlls y vendra con 25 licencias y $3,971 sin Hyper-V, mientras que la version Datacenter tendra un costo de $2,999 con Hyper-V, y $2,971 sin Hyper-V.
